Bangladesh Cafe Attack Planner Killed In Police Raid

Bangladeshi police say they have stormed a hideout near Dhaka and killed the suspected planner of a cafe attack last month that left 22 people dead.

Police said the dead “most probably” included Bangladeshi-Canadian citizen Tamim Chowdhury. Two other suspected militants died in the raid.

Twenty hostages and two police officers were killed in the cafe attack in July.

Bangladeshi commandos rescued 13 people after a 12-hour siege, killing six gunmen and arresting another.

Saturday’s raid on the militants took place in Naraynganj on the outskirts of Dhaka.

The cafe attack began on 1 July when the militants entered the Holey Artisan Bakery in Dhaka. They held hostages for 12 hours before police stormed the cafe, killing all five militants, reports the BBC.
