Policemen attached to the Airport Command in Lagos yesterday arrested a stowaway who wanted to leave Nigeria for overseas.
The man was found inside the tyre compartment of an Aero Contractor plane. The suspect, believed to be in his twenties, name yet unknown, did not know it was a local plane.
The man hid inside the tyre compartment, intending to get to his destination that way. He was discovered by the pilot who was doing a round check before take-off time.
Preliminary police investigation revealed that the man on Tuesday night scaled a fence through the premises of the defunct Concord newspaper into the airport.
He found the Aero Contractor plane and hid inside the tyre compartment. He was discovered yesterday morning.
A source said: “The man is from Anambra State. He said that he thought the plane was heading overseas; he didn’t know that it was a local flight. He was arrested at the MMA2.”
