Tosin Oke wins triple jump gold at the ongoing All Africa Games in Congo


Tosin Oke put smiles on Nigeria after winning gold in the men’s triple jump at the ongoing All Africa Games in Brazzaville, Congo, despite arriving the competition less than 24 hours before his event.
Oke, who nearly pulled out of the competition, won the event with a leap of 17.00m with another Nigeria, Olumide Olamigoke, winning the silver with a leap of 16.98m
Malian Mamadou Dia finished with the bronze medal after leaping 16.55m.
Tyrone Akins won bronze in the men’s 110m hurdles with a time of 13.54secs, while Doreen Amata won silver in the women’s high jump.
In some of the events decided in athletics on Monday, Amusan Oluwatobiloba and Lindsay Weyinme, both qualified for the final of the Women’s 100m hurdles.
Amusan recorded her personal best as she won her semifinal race in 13.11secs to qualify for the final while Weyinme finished third in her heat in 13.38secs, but still made it to the final scheduled for Tuesday.
Three Nigerian athletes are also through to the final of the women’s 400m, Tosin Adeloye, Margret Etim & Patience Okon George, and will be hoping for a podium finish on Tuesday.
