The House of Representatives, yesterday urged the Federal Government to sponsor a child each from the families of the 219 Chibok girls abducted by the Boko Haram insurgents in April 2014. The House also asked the government to intensify efforts to rescue the girls and other Nigerians held hostage by the terrorists group.

This resolution followed the adoption of a motion brought by Hon. Asabe Vilita Basshir(APC, Borno), calling on the Federal Government to intensify efforts to rescue the 219 Chibok girls. In the motion, Bashir noted that the 219 girls abducted from their hostels at Government Secondary School, Chibok by Boko Haram militants since April 19, 2014 have been in captivity.
