He has commended 60 corpers for awards. Ihenetu showed its report to NYSC’s director-general, Brig.-Gen. Olawumi Johnson, yesterday in his office.
According to the chairman of the committee the selecting process was severe; it nominated the best among the 222 corps members recently chosen.
He added that the criteria was that NYSC members must have renowned themselves at the orientation programme, primary assignment, the community development service, and the group DCS before they could be selected from the state.
Ihenetu noted that there was no pressure from any quarters, saying: “We have work assiduously with all sense of patriotism and we have come out with a report to the best of our knowledge that would be accepted.
On his own part the director-general praised the committee and pledged to make the report presented the same way it was submitted to him, continuing that the scheme would enable that the honours take place in 2015 as directed by President Muhammadu Buhari.
The award until recently attracted national certificates signed by the president, gold medal, automatic employment and cash donation will also attract a scholarship grant for winners to pursue postgraduate studies up to doctoral level in any university in the world.
The previous time about 164 corps members received the presidents’ NYSC honours award at the ceremony which was held at the presidential villa in March, 2015.
