Gunmen storm school, abduct teacher, students

Some gunmen have invaded a secondary school at Ndele Community, Emuoha Local Government Area of Rivers State and abducted a teacher, two students and a corps member.

A male teacher, who would have increased the number of those kidnapped to five, stubbornly resisted being abducted. He was however given the beaten of his life and left to die by the river.

The school had been shut down following the incident. The school authority said it was yet to receive call for ransom demand from the kidnappers.

The stubborn teacher, Mr Okwukwe, was later found unconscious at the river bank by a search party. The search party was said to have been raised after the gunmen invaded the school and dragged the victims away. Recalling what happened, Okwukwe said that while he was being beaten, other victims were dragged into a fly boat which sped away. Okwukwe said: “They used their guns to repeatedly hit me. I started bleeding.

As they were beating me, a boat came out from hiding. They ordered us to enter the boat, but the leader said they should leave me.

He said he didn’t want me to die in their hands.” The kidnapped victims work with the Universal Basic Education, UBE. It was gathered that the corps member, a male, was recently posted to the school by the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC).

Rivers State Police Command Spokesman, Ahmad Mohammad, who confirmed the abduction, said that a total of four persons were abducted, and that the police would work round the clock to ensure that they were released, and reunited with their families.
