A middle-aged man has reportedly murdered nine people and set a house on fire at Ngelefi, Ehamufu in Isi-Uzo Local Government Area of Enugu state.
The mad-man said to be of mid-age, reportedly hacked nine people to death in the middle of the night.
The alleged murderer- Onyekachi Ugwu who is suspected to be a lunatic, reportedly perpetrated the crime on Tuesday, October 13.
Police spokesperson in Enugu, Ebere Amarizu confirmed the story.
The public relations officer said that the authority had begun investigation, adding that the alleged murderer was suspected to be mentally ill.
Amarizu said: “search of the suspect is intensified by the combined team of the police and the Neighbourhood Watch group, who are combing bushes and hideouts in the area in order to stop further wrecking of havoc by the alleged mental suspect.
Sources narrated that the suspect killed his father as well as seven others in the early hours of Tuesday, using a cutlass.
Ugwu allegedly went to a farm settlement in the night, and hacked more than nine persons to death, when the community members were sleeping.
According to the Tribune, the lunatic apparently not satisfied with his thirst for blood, went on to set his father’s house on fire, burning his father, domestic animals, motorcycle and other properties.
Over 9 people were victims of the massacre, including a baby who was merely a year and six-months.
Tragedy also befell Amaja community in Enugu state, as the bodies of a couple simply identified as Mr and Mrs Marel Abah were discovered with their throats slit.
Reports reveal that at about 2.15am, some unidentified men entered the couple’s house while they were sleeping and slit their throats.
Sources say the crime was not discovered on time, due to the remote location of the house, which they said was isolated from other building in the community.
