Militants decry exclusion from Amnesty Programme, threaten Buhari with protest

Some Niger Delta militants Wednesday decried their exclusion from the Amnesty Programme introduced by late President Umaru Musa Yar’Adua, just as they have threatened to protest against the administration of President Muhammadu Buhari.

The leaders of the militants, Friday Burutu and Lord Onipa, leader and secretary respectively, who briefed journalists in Abuja, said President Buhari and his men were not keeping to the agreement reached before the elections.

According to them, they had reached agreement with the Buhari campaign organisation that the “3rd Phase Presidential Amnesty Programme”, which they belonged to, would be accommodated in the Amnesty programme and it was on that strength that they worked for the President during the campaign.

“But since Buhari entered as President he has abandoned us. I was South South Coordinator of SAI Buhari Revolution Group: Door 2 Door Campaign Education,” said Friday Burutu.

He narrated how they had met with the Director General of the Department of State Service, Lawal Daura in Buhari Campaign office during the Presidential campaign and how he had assured them to incorporate the group of over 3, 000 militants into the Amnesty Programme.
