The death toll of the nightclub fire in downtown Bucharest rose from 27 to 30 people on Sunday.
Authorities predict it could rise significantly in the coming days.
According to the authorities, the figure rose to 30 after three young women died on Sunday in two hospitals in Bucharest, while around 180 people injured in the fire and the ensuing stampede were receiving treatment.
State Secretary of the Interior Ministry, Raed Arafat told the meeting of the government task force that “there are 90 people in serious and critical condition, the figures could rise’’.
The nightclub fire late Friday was the most serious accident in public places in Romania for decades, as many as 26 people died in the fire at the club and one died shortly after being taken to the hospital.
The fire was started by a spark when pyrotechnic effects were used during a concert at the Colectiv nightclub and caused lighting sponges on a pillar, reports Reuters.
The government had earlier announced a three-day national mourning, from Saturday to Monday-a move which saw Romanian flags in the country and missions’ abroad flying at half mast.
Similarly, about 10,000 people on Sunday participated in a march paying tribute to the victims of the fire.
