Ahead of the Kogi State Governorship election on Saturday, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), has deployed 5,000 personnel and sniffer dogs to assist other security agencies in ensuring the success of the poll.
The Kogi State governorship election would be the first governorship election that would be conducted under the supervision of the ruling party, the All Progressives Congress (APC).
According to the statement from the spokesperson of the NSCDC, ACC, Emmanuel Okeh, “This is in line with the NSCDC mandate in providing security before, during and after elections by monitoring the activities of political parties as well as political actors through surveillance and intelligence gathering in order to guarantee a peaceful and hitch free polls”.
Okeh stated that the Commandant General of NSCDC, Abdullahi Gana Muhammadu, gave the directive for the deployment at the Corps National Headquarters in Abuja, as he assured that a robust security architecture have been put in place to guarantee security of lives and property of the electorate, stating that adequate arrangement have also been made for officers and men of the Corps to discharge their constitutional mandate.
According to the spokesperson, the CG, also charged parents and guardians to caution their wards against thuggery and all forms of electoral violence, advising all and sundry to be law abiding as anyone caught fomenting trouble would be dealt with according to the law.
