Police Rescue Teenage Schoolgirl, Arrest Six Suspects

Police in Rivers State have rescued a 14-year-old girl, Charity Ikirigo, who is a student of the Federal Government College, from kidnappers. The police also arrested six suspected kidnappers at their hideout at Abam in Okrika Local Government Area of the state.

The state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Ahmad Muhammad, said in a statement yesterday that one Mitchell Tanmuno and five others were arrested at their hideout. Muhammad said the kidnappers were apprehended after the police got information on the whereabouts of the suspected kidnappers in the community. He said: “The kidnappers’ arrest was made possible after the police had received information on their hideout.

They also confessed to have been the gang responsible for the kidnapping of the girl. “Immediately after the information, the Anti-Kidnapping Squad went after them, rescued the girl and arrested the suspected kidnappers.” The PPRO listed items recovered from the suspects to include two AK47 rifles and 170 rounds of live ammunition were recovered from them. Muhammad said the suspects would soon be charged to court.
