Stop Rumours Of Attacks, CP Warns Enugu Residents

Police in Enugu State have warned those spreading rumours of impending attacks on some communities to desist or risk being prosecuted. The state Police Commissioner, Emmanuel Ojukwu, who issued the warning, said such act was capable of causing panic and fear among law-abiding citizens.

Ojukwu said measures had been put in place to ensure the safety and security of the communities through relevant partnership with stakeholders. According to him, rumour-mongering creates fear and panic in the minds of the people.

The commissioner also advised those with any useful information to get in touch with the nearest police division or through the command’s operation room on 08032003702 and 08098880172. Ojukwu spoke during his maiden press briefing on his command’s readiness to ensure safety and security.

He also commiserated with those who lost their loved ones at Ukpabi Nimbo in Uzo-uwani Local Government Area of the state. The police boss said the Inspector General of Police, Solomon Arase, had already dispatched a high-powered investigative team from Force Criminal Investigations Department, Abuja, to unravel the remote and immediate causes of the incident as well as to fish out those involved in the dastardly act.

Ojukwu disclosed that he had visited Nimbo and Adani communities after he assumed duty as the commissioner for an on-the-spot assessment of the area. The commissioner said he interacted with the various stakeholders in the communities.
