Traditionalists React To Hijab Crisis In Osun State


Traditionalists have reacted to the hijab crisis in Osun state. Some of the traditionalists who spoke with newsmen said school should not be a place to display religious dresses.

Aregbesola who has been in the centre of religious crisis in the state over the use of Hijab by Muslim students in government secondary schools said his administration will not be deterred in its resolve to take the state to an enviable height.


The traditionalist urged the state governor, Rauf Aregbesola to be neutral and demanded that religious sentiments should not be expressed in schools. They urged the state government to come up with unified dress code without any religious sentiment.

“ What the state government should have done is to take a neutral position. It must not tilt to the left or to the right. That is a comfortable way of dealing with the situation,” Chief Olatunji Bamidele, Ifa worshipper said.
Speaking further, he added that “If you allow hijab to be used in public schools by female Muslim pupils. and Christians also begin to wear robes, the situation will not be palatable.
