Griezmann Wants Simeone To Stay At Atletico

The Argentine trainer is considering his future after failing for second time in the Champions League final, but his striker believes he will not be leaving La Liga

Atletico Madrid star Antoine Griezmann is confident coach Diego Simeone will remain with the Liga club.

Simeone pledged to ponder his future in the aftermath of last month's heartbreaking penalty shoot-out loss to rivals Real Madrid in the Champions League final.

Griezmann played a pivotal role taking Simeone's men to the San Siro showpiece as he enjoyed a career-best season and the France forward told beIN Sports France that his boss had offered assurances that he would stay at the Vicente Calderon.

"I spoke to him and I'm pretty sure he's staying," Griezmann said.

"I'd be raging if he left. I still have a lot to learn from him.

"I spoke to Simeone, I'm nearly 100 per cent sure he won't leave."

Atletico president Enrique Cerezo offered similar thoughts, as quoted by Mundo Deportivo.

"The fans can sleep peacefully because we have four more years of contract with him," he said.

"Whenever you lose a title you are upset. But Atletico have always shown that we win and we lose together."

Tiago: Simeone Going Nowhere

Atletico Madrid star, Tiago Mendes insists: “I have no doubt that Diego Simeone will stay with us” after Atletico’s defeat to Real in the Champions League final at the weekend.

Simeone hinted after the penalties loss in Milan that he would consider his future at Atleti, but Tiago made it clear he did not envisage the Coach leaving any time soon as Diego Godin did his best to remain upbeat.
“I have no doubt that Simeone will stay with us,” the midfielder said after the game.
Godin added: “The blow is hard to take, but we’ll get up. We always have. We’re very proud of what we did this season.
“Our efforts were impressive, but it couldn’t be crowned with a victory. Still, this is football so we’ll look for another opportunity.
“This is a winning group. I’m very proud of my teammates and we’ll continue fighting for our objectives, so we’ll keep dreaming.”

Simeone Defends Atletico’s Style Of Play

Diego Simeone has defended Atletico Madrid’s style of play and says that there isn’t one right way of getting results.
Simeone has taken Atletico to their second Champions League Final in three years, with the opposition both times Real Madrid, and he was asked about the May 28 fixture in a radio interview.
“It’s not revenge, it’s a new opportunity. Last time we didn’t rest but this time we have 14 days to prepare before the final and to arrive in the best possible way,” ‘AS’ reports.

“It’s 50-50. We know a lot about them. What we’re doing will go down in history because we’re showing the world what we can do. Barcelona, Madrid, Bayern Munich, they’re better but beware, because we’re there.” ‎
Atleti were criticised for their approach in knocking out Bayern in some quarters, with the side considered defensive by some, but Cholo explained the thinking behind his team. ‎
“There are a lot of ways to play well. It’s clear that the objective is to win. If you’re on a national team you can choose how you play but…when you’re at a club where the budget varies from one number to another, it’s clear that first you have to work to win,” he began. ‎
“If we all had a Ferrari that’d be one thing, but sometimes you have a Peugeot. We’re all right in football and the path can be reached in several ways. Then there is what you like and you can’t be angry with the opinions. ‎
“I always tell the players the goal isn’t to reach the final but to win it. To get to that point you have to work day to day, be better than we are, because if you only focus on May 28 then you won’t get there in the best way. The players identify with what we propose and we’re very lucky for that.”
