NSCDC Discovers Boko Haram’s Indoctrination Book

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in Borno on Sunday said it had discovered a “spiritual book“ suspected to be used by Boko Haram to hypnotize their victims.

The Commandant of the NSCDC in the state, Mr Ibrahim Abdullahi, disclosed this in Maiduguri in an interview.

Abdullahi said that the book, written in Arabic, was discovered during an operation by men of the command at an abandoned house in Dikwa Local Government Area of the state.

“It is sad that many innocent souls had been dragged into submitting to Boko Haram through spiritual indoctrination.

“The book, named“Guduma`, was used by the insurgents as a powerful charm to indoctrinate followers into submitting to the dictates of leaders of the sect.

“Our findings revealed that the book was also used in deceiving victims and members of the sect into believing that it could make them invisible and also offer protection against bullet shots and bombs.

“The spiritual book was abandoned by Boko Haram after the takeover of Dikwa from the insurgents, two years ago,“ he said.

NSCDC Official Kills Driver, Flees

A trigger-happy official of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has reportedly shot dead a 26-year-old employee of Dompec Global Resources, an Uyo-based beverages distribution firm. The corps, said to be on the run, was on a stop-and-search duty with his colleagues on Ikot Ekpene Road, Akwa Ibom State when the incident occurred on Wednesday. It was learnt that on sighting the delivery van with registration number XC 225UYY, the NSCDC team flagged down the vehicle.

But while the driver wanted to park properly, one of the NSCDC officials reportedly opened fire on the van, killing one of the occupants, identified as Chukwuma John. He hailed from Ebonyi State. Four people were four in the van.

The deceased name was given as. Realising the consequence of their action, the NSCDC officials took to their heels. But colleagues of the deceased alerted passers-by who promptly called the attention of police officers.

The van was later driven to the NSCDC office on Ekpanya Street by one of the occupants of the van as he struggled to come to terms with the sudden demise of his colleague. At their head office, some NSCDC officials tried to prevent journalists from taking snapshots of the body of John which was yet to be removed from the vehicle as at 5:30pm when journalists left. It was a moving scene as passers-by watched in utter shock.

The NSCDC Commandant, Obiageli Obiajulu, expressed sadness over the incident. She promised that the culprit would be fished out and brought to book. Obiajulu told journalists that she had already dispatched a team to apprehend the suspected killer.

When contacted yesterday, the state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), ASP Cordelia Nwawe, confirmed the killing. She said: “Investigation into the murder is ongoing. Police are on the trail of the murder suspect.

We will make our findings public.” On his part, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Dompec Global Resources, Deacon Daniel Chukwuma, said he was destabilised by the incident. He described John as a very humble young man who was very dedicated to his work. Chukwuma said John’s killing was hard to take considering the circumstances of his death. While calling on the NSCDC and other security agencies to arrest the culprit, he promised to seek redress in court.

The Legal Consultant of the company, Fidelis Amaechi, described the incident as inhuman and a gross abuse of arms by the NSCDC official. He said the matter was a serious case and would be treated as such. Meanwhile, some prominent Igbo leaders, who were at the scene to show support and solidarity to one of their own, vowed to get to the root of the matter.

NSCDC Destroys 13 Illegal Refineries In Rivers

The Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps on Thursday destroyed 13 illegal refineries in Rivers State.

This, according to the State Command of the NSCDC, was in line with its drive to eradicate the oil rich Niger Delta of oil theft, bunkering and other illegal activities.

The anti-vandal squad of the command had visited the illegal refining sites located in the creeks of B-Dere community in Gokana Local Government Area, setting ablaze seven illegal refineries.

It also advanced to Bolo Creek in Ogu/Bolo LGA where it burnt down six of the illegal refineries and oil dumps, bringing the total number to 13.

In the operation that lasted for about five hours at the heart of B-Dere/Bolo creeks, the team also destroyed four boats, two flying-boats and two mangala boats used by the vandals in their activities.

Earlier in the raid, some persons suspected to be operators of the illegal refineries at the visited sites had clashed with the NSCDC officers.

The gunmen had engaged the security operatives in a shootout before escaping for safety having been overpowered by the anti-vandal team, although no casualty was recorded.

Speaking to Southern City News after the operations, the Commandant of NSCDC Rivers State Command, Mrs. Helen Amakiri, said it located the illegal refineries through its intelligence gathering and reports.

Amakiri disclosed that the vandals had been stealing crude from oil pipelines in the area and illegally refining the products in the two creeks.

She noted that about 330,000 liters of illegally refined Automotive Gas Oil and 250,000 crude oil were discovered and destroyed

The commandant, however, stressed that the government was losing much revenue to the activities of the vandals, adding that they (NSCDC) will not relent in their effort to stop oil theft.

“The officers of the NSCDC Rivers State were in B-Dere in Gokana LGA and Bolo Creek in Ogu/Bolo LGA and we destroyed 13 illegal refineries. From an intelligence report, we gathered that these refineries exist there.

“In today’s operations, about 330,000 litres of adulterated AGO and about 250,000 litres of crude oil were destroyed.

“The government is losing a lot. Definitely this crude oil is got from a burst pipeline. The money that is being wasted due to the activities of these vandals would have been used by the government for other needs of the country.

“We have the challenge of equipment, sophisticated weapons. Like today, there was a shootout between the vandals and our men. Although we have what we can face them with, but we need more.

“There was a shootout between the vandals and our men, but, no casualty was recorded. The shootout will not deter us from our activities, rather, it has boosted our morale,” Amakiri vowed.

Fuel Scarcity: NSCDC Clamps Down On Black Marketers In Benue

Authorities of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps in Benue State yesterday ordered its men to embark on a total clampdown on fuel black marketers and arrest any filling station operators that indulge in sharp practices at the filling stations. State Commandant of the corps, Mr. Ogumba Andrew, who gave the order in a statement, also ordered the immediate stoppage of illegal sale of fuel and other sharp practices currently being perpetrated by some members of the public in connivance with petrol station operators in the state.

Ogumba said the command of the NSCDC has dispatched armed patrol team to monitor activities at all filling stations across the state to curb the menace of black marketers in order to ensure the smooth sale of petroleum products to the public. The commandant urged members of the public to report any person found wanting in this regard to the command for necessary action.

Meanwhile, prices of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), popularly known as petrol, has continued to skyrocket in Benue State, following the acute shortage of the product at filling stations, causing untold hardship to motorists.

Officials of the Department of Petroleum Resources, DPR, in the state have since the commencement of the fuel scarcity, been adamant and have allegedly been accused of complicity in the crisis.

When New Telegraph went to town to monitor the situation yesterday, it was gathered that at Golden Ecstasy and Kyabiz fillings stations respectively, were selling at between N210 to N215 per litre, while others were completely shut down over claims of non-availability of the product. Filling stations, where motorists suspected, had fuel, had long queues of vehicles where owners waited patiently for days to buy only to be told the commodity was not in stock.

Some private and commercial vehicle owners were also cited at the NNPC mega station located along the Makurdi-Otukpo road, but were not dispensing fuel, just as motorcyclists and others who wanted to buy in generators were forced to resort to black marketers, who were selling at between N270 and N300 per litre.

A motorist who parked his vehicle at the NNPC mega station, told New Telegraph that he kept his car there since Tuesday last week with the hope that the station will be opened for normal sale of petrol, but to no avail, saying he will continue to remain on queue until he gets the commodity since he cannot afford to patronise black marketers. New Telegraph learnt that as a result of the recalcitrant increase in fuel prices, transport fares and prices of food items have also increased drastically
