Photos: Dead mouse found in sandwich

An Oregon man, Matt Jones, got the shock of his life recently when he stopped over with his friend to buy sandwich.

According to Jones’ Facebook update, the shocking incident happened on Tuesday, October 6, at a Subway restaurant. He said he and his friend had waited while an employee of the Lincoln City restaurant was making sandwiches for them.

Jones however spotted a dead mouse as the unidentified employee put a handful of spinach out of the bin and dropped it onto the bread.

“It’s the funniest thing I’ve ever seen, but it’s also the most disgusting thing I’ve ever seen. I laughed because I was like, there is no way this just happened,” Jones told KGW, recalling how he felt at first. Jones further took to his Facebook page to post the image of the dead rodent. The post which has now gotten over 831 shares with the attention of many reads below:

Filtering through the comment section of the post, Jones said:

‘I just had my sandwich made which was a sweet onion chicken teriyaki with spinach…. Jay who I was getting lunch with ordered the spicy Italian and the manager lady finished off the last bit of spinach for his sandwich and when she spread the spinach across it that little mouse was in it folded up! LoL…. Jay was shocked and I asked what is it a finger nail or a pubic hair… He said no it’s a little bigger than that! So I walked back up to the counter and asked to see what it was! She actually let me take a picture of the mouse in the subway sandwich! LMFAO! Good thing I asked and she let me to document it!.’

The incident also got the attention of the county health department and an investigation was conducted. “The investigation determined that the rodent problem did not come from inside the facility. It was probably in a bag of the bagged spinach product, not from the facility itself,” Cheryl Connell, director of Lincoln County Health and Human Services, told the television station. “Everything was sanitized and cleaned properly afterwards.”

Health Department officials said the risk of anyone else becoming sick from eating the same batch of spinach was very low, KGW reported.
