Researchers found that patients who had intercourse three or four times a week cleared up the condition more quickly than those on a drug treatment
A saucy new cure for painful kidney stones has been discovered - have plenty of sexual intercourse.
It has been heralded as an effective way to clear distal ureteral stones, researchers conclude.
A medical team at the Clinic of Ankara Training and Research Hospital in Turkey, randomly assigned 90 male patients with distal ureteral stones to one of three treatments.
After just a fortnight, 26 of 31 patients in the sexual intercourse group passed their stones compared with 10 patients taking the drug tamulosin. Just eight of the remaining in the control group passed their stone.
The team realised the difference in stone passage rate was significantly greater in the sex group – and it also happened more quickly.
Those getting plenty of sex managed to expel their stone in an average of 10 days opposed to over a fortnight and longer for the rest.
The investigators suggest nitric oxide released during erection and sexual intercourse may cause relaxation of ureteral muscle.
“Today, medical expulsive therapy is recommended as the first-line treatment in ureteral stones that do not necessitate surgery,” the authors write.
“In our opinion, if the patient has a sexual partner , having sexual intercourse at least three times a week may beneficial.”
