Ohanaeze youths want assassination attempt on Ekweremadu probed

The youth wing of the Igbo socio-cultural group Ohanaeze Ndigbo, the Ohanaeze Youth Council (OYC), has asked the Inspector General of Police, Solomon Arase, to investigate the alleged assassination attempt on the Deputy Senate President, Chief Ike Ekweremadu.

OYC in a press statement issued yesterday in Umuahia expressed shock that such high political office holder of in Igbo extraction could be target of assassination.

The press statement signed by its National President, Mazi Okechukwu Isiguzoro; and Secretary, Okwu Nnabuike, demanded that the IGP should unmask those behind the evil plot, which it said posed further danger to the unity of Nigeria.

The OYC said any harm on Ekweremadu, would amount to a declaration of war against Ndigbo which must be resisted at all cost, saying that Igbo youths were prepared to provide informal security ring around Ekweremadu, to ensure his safety. “We are ready to stake our lives to ensure the safety of Ekweremadu,” OYC vowed.

“If those who opposed his emergence as Deputy Senate President now want to come after his life they will still fail just as they failed to stop his ascendancy,” the statement said.

The Igbo youths expressed their unflinching support for Ekweremadu and other National Assembly members of Igbo extraction, urging them to stay united in the defense of Igbo cause.

The Ohanaeze Youth Council also challenged the Federal Government to tell Nigerians the real owners of REMITA fingered for the alleged N25 billion fraud in the Treasury Single Account (TSA) saga and urged the National Assembly to be thorough with the investigation.
