World Bank hails Edo on N1bn counterpart fund

The World Bank, yesterday, lauded the government of Governor Adams Oshiomhole of Edo State for the prompt payment of over N1billion counterpart fund that qualified the state to enjoy the bank’s projects and other incentives to the benefit of people of the state.

The World Bank Task Team Leader, Dr Amos Abu, stated this when management of the bank paid a courtesy visit on Governor Oshiomhole at Government House Benin, the state capital. The World Bank executives, who were in the state to inspect ongoing erosion projects in Auchi, Queen Ede and Ekenwa, described the progress of the work as outstanding.

They commended the state government for its commitment to the service of its people through the payment of the counterpart funds which Dr Abu said made Edo State “number one in accessing World Bank projects in the country”. Dr Amos Abu was in company of over 20 members of the team,

He said, ““Our core Engineers are already in Auchi to look at the work that is going on and to also provide guidance on how it can be quickly completed. We are also very happy with the new site that has been put forward for the bank funding. A close look at this site shows that they met the site selection criteria so we are very happy to consider and take them on board.

According to him, “Worthy of mentioning is the level of commitment by the state. This is demonstrated by the over N1 billion counterpart fund which you have paid and no other state has been able to match this. Equally worthy of mention is the fact that we have not received any single complain of political interference from this state which is very unique.”
