The All Progressives Congress Presidential Campaign Organisation raised alarm over death threats coming from the presidency.
Premium Times reports that the opposition accused President Goodluck Jonathan Campaign Organization of intimidating Rotimi Fashakin via text messages sent on March 15, Sunday.
According to the March 17 statement by Garba Shehu, the first SMS was sent at 6.09pm and read:
“Mr. ICT expert, your plan on our man Kayode may cost your life. we have been told of all your plans and if dare it, is a risk of your life and that of your family.”
It was followed by another message sent 10 minutes later:
“Don’t say you are not warned, we are following you, we are waiting to see anything funny about our man on the social media. You bastard, watch your back.”
Shehu noted that they were not taking the threats seriously, adding however that the presidency showed how desperate it is.
“Indeed, this struggle to wrest Nigeria from the hands of the Jackals has now taken a dangerous bend. With victory in sight for General Muhammadu Buhari and the APC, the reactionary elements are now threatening our lives.
“We dare say, nothing can truncate our destiny without the permission of the Almighty God. We remain unfazed in our charted course of rescuing Nigeria from her perilous governance!
“This is to inform the good people of Nigeria that Jonathan’s goons are now on the prowl. However, we believe that, with the support of the Nigerian people, victory is assured at the elections on 28th March, 2015 and 11th April, 2015.”
Fashakin confirmed having received the messages with unpleasant content. He added that Jonathan started realizing that the opposition was going to win, therefore even intimidation attempts were not loathed.
“It is left for Nigerians to be praying for me.”
Meanwhile Muhammadu Buhari yesterday delivered a speech in Abuja during the Interactive Session with the Nigerian Press Organisation. The politician noted that he had changed and become a committed democrat.
Unable to change the past (apparently referring to his years in the office as a military head of state), Buhari promised to change the present and the future for the better, if elected.
