The National and State House of Assembly Election Petitions Tribunal sitting in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital, Tuesday dismissed the petition of the Accord Party’s senatorial candidate for the Oyo Central district in the March, 2015 election, Chief Bisi Ilaka.
The Justice J.G Abundaga-led tribunal dismissed the petition filed against the victory of Senator Monsurat Sunmonu,
claiming that he did not substantially prove his case with evidence. It therefore declared the former Speaker winner of the March 28 election.
However, in a statement he made available as reaction to the tribunal decision, Ilaka said it had turned itself into “a theatre of the absurd” by standing “justice and all the rules of fair play on its head” by denying him the opportunity to present his case within the 14 days stipulated by the Electoral Act.
