courts laws

A Magistrates’ Court sitting in Osogbo, Osun State, yesterday ordered a 30-year-old man, Mr Adedoyin Tadese, returned N1.5 million he for snatched from one Mr. Akeeb Abiodun. Tadese, who was arraigned by the police, was said to have snatched Abiodun’s money on July 5, 2013 in front of the Osogbo branch of Sterling Bank where he went to withdraw the money.

The police prosecutor, Inspector Oladoye Joshua, told the court that Tadese was apprehended by the people around the scene of the incident before he was handed over to the police. According to Joshua, a few minutes later, the chunk of the money had disappeared from the man and efforts to make him refund the full money to the owner were fruitless.

However, when Tadese was brought before the court, the one-court charge sheet prepared against him was stealing. Though he pleaded not guilty to the offence, the prosecutor told the court that Tadese committed an offence contrary to and punishable under Section 390 (9) of the Criminal Code, Cap 34, Volume 2, Laws of Osun State, 2013.
