
Officials of the Lagos State Task Force on Environmental and Special Offences Unit yesterday arrested about 155 miscreants otherwise called ‘Area Boys’ at Oyingbo and Idumota areas. The task force also impounded 150 motorcycles also known as Okada who plied the restricted areas in the state. It was learnt that the miscreants shot a para-military official attached to the task force, Mr Samuel Ogunjimi, while they threw a petrol bomb at a policeman, Corporal Friday Adama.
It was also learnt that the task force carried out the arrest overnight. The miscreants were said to have been terrorising residents of Oyingbo and Idumota while the motorcycles were seized at Iddo area. The raid followed a series of petitions received by the task force on the activities of the hoodlums.
The residents had complained that the street urchins, who have turned under bridges at Iddo towards Idumota riverside to their den to rob innocent citizens of their valuables especially at night. The suspects were also accused of smoking India hemp and rapping women.
The Chairman of the task force, Olubkola Abe, said that dangerous weapons were recovered from the miscreants. According to him, items recovered from them include two locally-made pistols, one English pump action gun and seven rounds of ammunition.
