Jose Mourinho believes Manchester United have decided to turn to Ryan Giggs as their next manager.
‘The Sunday Mirror’ claims Mourinho’s poor track record when it comes to promoting academy players has counted against him as United consider the options to take over from Louis van Gaal.
And they claim Old Trafford officials have decided to keep faith with their succession plan to promote his assistant Giggs to the top job when the Dutchman departs.
Meanwhile, Atletico Madrid boss Diego Simeone believes sought-after midfielder Saul Niguez should stay at the club for the benefit of his development.
Recent reports have claimed that the 21-year-old, who is a target for Manchester United and Arsenal, has rejected an improved contract offer from Atletico, fuelling speculation that he could look to leave in the near future.
Manager Simeone was asked about offers for the youngster at a press conference and said: “That depends on the club. Our interest in is trying to make players the best they can be.
“I think it would be premature for Saul to leave because he’s young and to continue growing as a player there is nowhere better than his home – Atletico.”
