Akwa Ibom Set To Establish Refineries

Determined to put an end to the perennial fuel scarcity rocking the state, the Akwa Ibom State government has concluded plans to establish private modular refineries. Governor Udom Emmanuel made the disclosure during an interview session jointly conducted by the Akwa Ibom Broadcasting Company (AKBC), the Nigerian Television Authority, Atlantic FM and Planet FM, Uyo.

He said: “We have since commenced documentation with the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) for the take-off of a refinery on Private Public Partnership (PPP) arrangement.

“The construction of the refineries had become imperative considering the strategic location of the state and its emerging economy.” Udom commended the Ministry of Petroleum Resources for the steps so far taken in resolving the crisis in the oil sector, stressing that the measure is what is best for Nigerians.

He pointed out that his administration was focusing on the commitment to explore the three pillars of economic development, comprising land, water and air to fast track the growth of the state. He also stressed that a proper skills development centre was in the offing to compliment his administration’s industrialisation policy.
