Riot police have been in fresh clashes with hundreds of French students protesting against proposed new labour laws.
Demonstrators threw stones and officers sprayed tear gas during sporadic violence in Paris that led to a number of arrests.
A high school in Levallois-Perret, in the northwestern suburbs of the capital, was damaged when a barricade was set on fire. There are further demonstrations planned for Marseilles, Grenoble, Toulouse and Strasbourg.
It is the latest show of defiance by demonstrators opposed to new labour laws which are now being debated in parliament. Previous protests, headed by France’s powerful labour unions and students, have brought hundreds of thousands of demonstrators onto the streets over the past month, reports Sky News.
The socialist government led by President Francois Hollande is desperate to push through the reforms, which are seen as a last attempt to boost the struggling economy ahead of next year’s presidential election.
