INEC: Votes Now Really Count

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) said despite the hues and‎ cries over inconclusive elections, the elections are credible.
Chairman of the Commission, Professor Muhamuod Yakubu, in an interactive session with INEC Press Corps on Wednesday, said although the commission like every other Nigerian is worried when an election is inconclusive, certain compelling circumstances are responsible for the outcome of every election.

‎”Nobody wants elections to be inconclusive, but I haven’t seen or read anywhere where INEC was accused of taking a position outside the provisions of Electoral Act,” Professor Yakubu noted.
He said elections in Nigeria have become better with the deployment of technology.
According to him, Nigerians have been clamouring for strong political parties so that elections could be competitive and not the just one political party that win by landslide.

“Now we have strong political parties and there are others that have also become stronger and now win in areas that they have never won before.
“The elections are also becoming very, very competitive and the margin of victory is reducing.”
