Police, Vigilantes Kill Five Robbers In Gun Duel


Mobile policemen and vigilantes headed by the renowned hunter, Ali Kwara, yesterday shot dead five suspected armed robbers during a shootout in Bauchi State. The incident followed intelligent report made available to the police and vigilantes who raided the hideout of the robbers in Kunjin/Lodio forest in Bursali District of Zaki Local Government Area.

The state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Haruna Mohammed, said in a statement that the gun battle lasted for over 30 minutes. He said: “About 1200 hours, following intelligence report, the renowned hunter, Ali Kwara, in collaboration with a team of police mobile personnel attached to him, raided a criminals’ hideout in Kunjin/ Lodio forest in Bursali District and had a fierce gun battle with suspected armed robbers which lasted for more than 30 minutes. “As a result, five of the suspects were fatally wounded and rushed to the Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Azare, but were certified death on arrival by a medical doctor.”

Mohammed said that exhibits recovered at the scene of incident included four AK47 rifles, one locally-made revolver pistol, 164 rounds of 7.62 live ammunition, nine rounds of .9mm ammunition, seven empty magazines, two expanded ammunition and N17,000 cash. The PPRO added that the bodies of the suspects had been deposited at the mortuary of the FMC, Azare, for autopsy while investigation was on.
