Valencia majority owner Peter Lim and super-agent Jorge Mendes were in Manchester yesterday, funnily enough on the same date Manchester City faced Real Madrid in the Champions League semi-final at the Etihad Stadium.
The exact nature of their visit isn’t known. They were spotted at Hotel Football, owned by the ‘Class of 92’ and located very close to Old Trafford, but Lim’s personal friendship with the group could be why they stayed there rather than something related to United.
Still, this is an ongoing saga and is getting plenty coverage in Spain’s third largest city.
Pellegrini is the man Valencia want to lead them next and he is reported to be keen on the job, but the club are also looking at Rayo Vallecano boss Paco Jémez, who would be a cheaper option.
The latest reports state that Pellegrini has requested €7 million over three seasons plus bonuses for Champions League qualification. It’s a sizeable sum for Valencia to pay out, despite being supported by Lim’s millions. They still have to comply with Financial Fair Play and Champions League football isn’t happening next season after the Gary Neville disaster.
