The police in Ogun State have arrested four members of a militant group over alleged vandalism of pipelines at the Arepo axis, along the Lagos-Ibadan expressway.
The suspects include a 40-year-old Pere Ugbozuwa identified as secretary to the militants; Audu Tony, 39; Ifeanyi Eze, 29, and Ojogo Ezekiel, 23.
Also, the police nabbed two suspected pipeline vandals, Olamilekan Akinyemi and Ramon Mudashiru, with fourteen 200-litre drums and several jerry cans of petrol.
A statement Sunday by the state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Olumuyiwa Adejobi, said the suspects were apprehended during separate operations between Friday and Saturday.
Adejobi, a Deputy Superintendent of Police, restated the commitment of the police command towards tackling pipeline vandalism in the state.
According to him, a special operation coordinated by the state Commissioner of Police, Abdulmajid Ali, led to the arrest of the four members of the militant group.
He noted that the suspects have been responsible for recent killings, destruction of pipelines as well as other criminal acts in the Arepo area for years.
