De Gea was 12 months ago close to Santiago Bernabeu and reports in Spain on Friday say Los Blancos are again interested, but the goalkeeper is encouraged at the prospect of working under Jose Mourinho, newly-installed at Old Trafford.
“There’s a lot of talk even though not a lot is known. I understand how it is, but it seems to me a lack of respect when [it’s as if what’s said] is out of my mouth,” he told ‘Marca’.
“I have three more years at United and my hope is to keep winning trophies. To talk about Mourinho is talk about a winner, and that is United’s philosophy and mine.
“Clearly not being in the Champions League is a blow but we won the FA Cup after 12 years and three without any trophies. That’s a very important trophy for the fans. It’s a step to winning major trophies again.”
De Gea also has silverware in mind internationally as he is part of the Spain squad to go to France and hopes to beat Iker Casillas to a starting place.
“I hope so, as I expect everyone in the squad hopes to start. I’m ready for what Vicente del Bosque decides and to help the team,” he added.
“Iker has spent his entire life as a captain, first Madrid and then the national team. I respect him for everything he has done in football. He’s an exemplary captain. He’s always helping, encouraging, and giving everything he can.
“My relationship with him is good. He’s an example for everyone, an exemplary captain and so is Sergio Ramos. The national team has two great captains and two examples for everyone.”
Meanwhile, Manchester United are considering summer offers for two La Liga stars – Atletico Madrid’s Antoine Griezmann and Sevilla striker Kevin Gameiro.
According to ‘ESPN FC’, new boss Mourinho believes Griezmann, who scored 22 league goals for Atleti last season, is the ideal forward to play in his counter-attacking system.
As for Gameiro, who unlike Griezmann was not named in Didier Deschamps’ Euro 2016 France squad, Mourinho reportedly wants to strengthen his central striking options.
