The Independent Petroleum Marketers Associations of Nigeria (IPMAN) yesterday called on President Muhammadu Buhari to to appoint a Special Presidential Trustee Task Force that would handle the importation and distribution of the petroleum products. Speaking to journalists in Kano, the North-West Zonal Chairman of IPMAN, Alhaji Lawal Danzaki, said as it is today, the Minister of State for Petroleum, Dr. Ibe Kachikwu, has not been able to conveniently tell President Buhari the actual problems facing the sector.
He said IPMAN believes that the minister had “clearly showed that the task of handling petroleum problems in Nigeria is too much on him”, hence he cannot be minister and at the same time the Group Managing Director (GMD) of the NNPC.
“You will believe with me that this Minister of Petroleum is rather wondering about, he is doing nothing but deceiving President Buhari, you can see that, even at the fact the he asked PPMC to import 78 per cent of the total consumptions living 22 to depot owners and major marketers, the problems still persist this is because marketers cannot import with this high exchange rate, and the NNPC is busy taking over private filling stations living the actual problems of having sound refineries and distributing the products to every nocks and corners of Nigeria,” he said.
The IPMN chairman stressed that President Buhari, at this juncture, should come in to rescue the nation from falling into a long fuel scarcity debacle.
