Former Super Eagles coach Bonfere Jo has indicated his desire to return to the national team job following the resignation of Sunday Oliseh.
Jo led the Dream Team to gold at the Atlanta 96′ Olympics with the likes of Nwankwo Kanu, Daniel Amokachi, Emmanuel Amuneke among the stars to emerge.
Bonfrere, was sacked in 2001 after losing a World Cup qualifier in Sierra Leone, and assistant Super Eagles coach from 1990 to 1994.
Speaking to the BBC, Jo tried to displace the talents of other coaches in the running to replace interim Samson Siasia.
The Dutchman claimed that he knowledge of the country and the style of football it plays will help him to if he is reappointed.
He said:
“I have worked in Nigeria for a long time in the past and I know what to do to get the Super Eagles flying again.Following the resignation of Oliseh, Samson Siasia was appointed interim by the Nigeria Football Federation and would work alongside Salisu Yusuf and Emmanuel Amuneke.
“I love Nigeria because that is where my football mentality is most at home and I have a fantastic relationship with the people there.
“Apart from Stephen [Keshi], the other local coaches have not succeeded because they cannot give what they don’t have to take the team higher.
“Other foreign coaches have also failed because they come with the arrogant attitude of being a world class coach and a big name to perform magic there, and that wrong notion meant they had no passion, desire and the required knowledge to succeed on the job.
“I was very successful because I did not separate myself from the reality. I worked with youth and domestic players; I had faith in my Nigerian assistants and gave my best despite all the challenges.
“No one has done what I achieved and I believe I am the right man to return Nigeria to glory days in Africa and the world,” said the Dutchman.
Nigeria hosts Egypt in an AFCON 2017 qualifiers double header in Kaduna on March 25 and visit the Pharaohs in Alexandria on March 29.
Egypt are top of the qualifying group with maximum six points, two ahead of Nigeria after two rounds of matches.
