Police Held Two Suspects For Rivers Killings


The Police in Rivers State have arrested two persons, suspected to have killed some members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Omoku, Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni Local Government Area (ONELGA) and Buguma in Asari-Toru Local Government Area.

Commissioner of Police Musa Kimo confirmed this in a statement in Port Harcourt, the state capital yesterday.

Kimo said Anthony Ugo was held for the murder and beheading, Saturday night, of the APC Omoku Ward 4 Chairman, Franklin Obi, and the killing of his wife and 18-year-old son, Bestman.

He said Ndubisi Tochi was arrested for the clubbing and burning of Ofinjite Amachree at Buguma on Monday.

The commissioner condemned the “renewed senseless killings” in the state and vowed to ensure that the perpetuators were prosecuted.

He said the two suspects were being interrogated and hoped that they would assist in apprehending the rest of their gang and their sponsors.

Kimo said: “You would recall that on Saturday, March 5, 2016, at Omoku, Frank Obi with his wife and son were murdered. Similarly, on Monday, March 7, 2016, at Buguma, Ofinjite Amachree was killed and his body set ablaze.

“I’m saddened by these tragic and senseless killings while my heart and sincere condolence goes to the bereaved families. We must realise that violence is never and will never be a solution.

“While investigation is on, let me inform you that the command will bring to book the perpetrators of not only these killings but similar incidents.

“We have in our custody Anthony Ugoh, who was arrested in connection with the murder of Frank Obi and two other relations. We have also arrested Ndubisi Tochi on the allegations of the killing of Ofinjite Amachree.

“Both suspects are being interrogated and are given us information that will lead to the arrest of their accomplices. We will after investigation parade the suspects before you.

“Let me appeal for the support and cooperation of the public by way of information to enable us protect life and property. Rest assured that any information volunteered will remain confidential.

“It is also pertinent to inform you that I have placed all officers and men of the command on the red alert to allay the fears of the public and to nip in the bud any security breach. Any peace-loving person is enjoined to go about his lawful business without any fear of molestation.”
