Rooney, Drogba For Yobo Match

Manchester United skipper Wayne Rooney and Chelsea legend, Didier Drogba, have confirmed to be part of the testimonial match of former skipper of the Super Eagles, Joseph Yobo.

The match is scheduled to take place at the Adokie Amiesiamaka Stadium in Port Harcourt on May 27 and the former international expressed excitement that the response he had been getting from his professional colleagues had been wonderful.

Speaking in Lagos about the testimonial match on Tuesday, Yobo said his former coach at Everton FC, David Moyes, also called to confirm that he would be in Nigeria with ‘a team’ while former Cameroon skipper, Samuel Eto’o and Kolo Toure of Cote d’Ivoire would also be in the country for the event.

He said: “It will be tough for us to handle the number of dignitaries coming from all parts of the world. I feel highly honoured. I am also happy all the legends of Nigerian football are present here today.

I have special relationship with all the coaches I worked with both at the national team and club levels. “It is difficult to play over 100 games for the country but I thank God I did that and hope we will have many others to celebrate this way.”

Yobo said it was interesting that his first home game for the Eagles was in Port Harcourt and his last will also take place there in May. Seven former national team captains were present at the event.

Henry Nwosu, Peter Rufai, Austin Eguavoen, Nwankwo Kanu, Austin Okocha and Christian Chukwu were at the Eko Hotels to honour Yobo. Victor Ikpeba, Taribo West and Ifeanyi Udeze were also at the occasion.

Commissioner for Sports in Rivers State, Boma Iyaye, assured that the state would be ready to host the world for the African football legend, Yobo.
