Troops Rescue 275 Captives, Kill 15 Boko Haram Suspects

Troops of 152 Task Force Battalion and Sector 1 of Multinational Joint Task Force, on Sunday, rescued 275 captives, even as they killed 15 Boko Haram suspects during an operation to clear the sect’s hideout around Madawaya area in Borno State. The troops also cleared the area of Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs), even as they were said to have captured and destroyed one IED-making factory, among others.

The disclosures were made in separate statements by the Acting Director, Army Public Relations (DAPR), Colonel Sani Usman. “Troops of 152 Task Force Battalion, in conjunction with troops of Sector 1 of Multinational Joint Task Force, on Sunday, April 4, 2016 carried out clearance operation in suspected hideouts of Boko Haram terrorists around Madawaya general area, cleared an IED making factory, killed 15 terrorists and captured some weapons.

“The gallant soldiers also rescued 275 persons held hostage by the Boko Haram terrorists. One interesting thing is that, one of the rescued persons gave birth to a baby boy shortly after their liberation. Both mother and the child are doing fine. “The troops cleared terrorists in Madawaya, Jere, Kardile, Koujili, Ngenere and Maksamari, as well as Douse, Bembem, Zombulum and Taraji villages.

In addition, they recovered several vehicles and motorcycles. “They also discovered and destroyed the Boko Haram terrorists’ IED making factory at Bula Umara and killed 15 terrorists in the same area. In addition, the troops recovered an AK-47 rifle, four fully loaded magazines with 7.62mm ammunition, two power generating sets, welding machines, assorted batteries and solar panels,” the Army said. Meanwhile, the Army, in another statement, said troops of 22 Brigade Garrison, captured six suspected Boko Haram insurgents.

According to Usman, “Troops of 22 Brigade Garrison, Army Headquarters Strike Group (AHQ SG), accompanied by some Civilian JTF on fighting patrol to Boboshe, Garna, Kyare, Kadawu, Gineba and Ajiri arrested six Boko Haram terrorists and recovered IED making devices on Sunday, April 4, 2016.

“Although the fighting patrol team found Boboshe village virtually empty, they however recovered eight industrial gas cylinders and five regular gas cylinders at a primary school being used for IED making and also recovered a pickup vehicle. “The patrol team captured three Boko Haram terrorists at Kadawu and recovered four motorcycles, three bicycles, one solar panel and two liquid herbicides.”
