National Coordinator of Oodua People’s Congress (OPC), Otunba Gani Adams Monday asked communities in the southwest geo-political zone to set up ethnic militia to defend them against the rampaging Fulani herdsmen.
Adams gave the solution to the invasion of different communities by the Fulani herdsmen because, according to him, the OPC alone should not be saddled with the responsibilities of defending the Yoruba’s interest.
Also, Adams pushed for the re-work of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria in such a way that would allow for each state of the federation to have its own police to defend the citizens.
Delivering a lecture titled “Farmers/Herdsmen attacks; what implications for ethnic Nigeria” organised by the State Council of Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ) to mark this year’s Democracy Day, Adams faulted President Muhammadu Buhari’s statement that the 2014 National Conference would be kept in the archives.
Speaking to array of people including monarchs, commissioners, top government officials, security personnel and members of OPC drawn from 18 local government areas of the state, Adams said he may not be in position to restrain his members if the incessant killing of the people in the zone by the Fulani herdsmen persists.
